Prayer Request for LTC(R) Michael O'Brien

 

 

Hello All,

 

One of our Special Forces brothers is in need of our prayers.  LTC(R) Michael O’Brien has prostate cancer and it has spread all over his body.  His doctor has said that there is nothing more they can do and has only given him 6 months to live.  He is currently at home and in hospice care.

 

Please keep Michael and his family in your prayers!

Seriously – do it. Travel insurance covers nonrefundable flight tickets and other prepaid travel expenses so you can be refunded in the event something unexpected comes up.  ahhhh. brings back memories. Wasn't called selection when I arrived at Bragg/Liberty. Four week basic at MacKall. We lost ~30 the first day when they put the entire company (~250) in the lean and rest while they went thru rucks a squad at a time stripping them of pogey bait, paper backs, gum, playing cards and whatever. Had to reach down deep to remind oneself to keep the eyes on the prize..... Slide for life into the pond in mid January was a cold wakeup.

I was on my way to PT when my car broke down on Yadkin Rd and I was running to my unit, 2/325th AIR, for those who know, the intersection of Reilley & and Gruber Rd is a bit of a run down to Ardennes where the 325 was.

I saw that poster and I stopped to look at it, MSG Tillman saw me looking at the sign and asked me what did I think about it and I told him I'd like to know more but I was late for PT.... he gave me a ride to my unit, when I arrived [pushups ensued] he spoke to my 1SG, he came back at 5 gave me a ride to my car and helped me to get it going... because I was just an E4, I had to wait 6 months until I was promoted to E5 and eligible to reup before I could signup, but I kept in touch with MSG Tillman he invited me to Gabriel demonstrations and other events and I got to meet a lot of the people I would serve with later... the day after I reenlisted I was back at the camouflaged shack doing my paperwork. MSG Tillman wasn't a recruiter, he was the 7th SFG(A) S-3 NCOIC...

SFA Members,    We want to let you know about a very unique gathering of 2,100+ Green Berets, Gold Star Families, Medal of Honor recipients, Family and friends.  SFA Legacy Initiatives (SFALI) is close to signing a contract to charter an entire cruise ship for Special Forces Alumni, Family, and friends. We are looking at a 5-day cruise departing Port of Tampa around the 3rd week of October 2024.  The exact details cannot be released until we have a signed contract because cruise lines can reposition ships and change itineraries to meet everyone's requirements.  We are looking to release all cruise information O/A June 23, 2023.  Registration information can be found at: https://sfali.org/cruise-pre-registration-page/  We are also in the early planning phase for several events and excursions in the Tampa area 2-3 days prior/after the sailing as well.   The responses have been overwhelming with 370 cabin registration (700+ passengers) in just over three weeks.  Of those, 15 have already committed to purchase a second cabin for a Gold Star Family, Medal of Honor recipient, or currently serving AD/NG Soldier and their spouse.  We expect to fill all 1,055 cabins in the next 60-90 days.  You need to pre-register now! This event will provide Special Forces Benevolent Organizations, Sponsors, and friends many opportunities to engage several generations of Special Forces Soldiers and their Families in formal and informal settings.  On a charter, every venue on the ship will be available to schedule to best suit specific programs, symposiums, discussions, and lunch/dinner sessions at no additional cost to the sponsor or individual.   During the 2023 SFA Convention (SFACON), the membership voted that this cruise will also be the venue for 2024 SFACON.  SFA Chapter VIII (8), Hawaii Chapter, has stepped up to take the lead on organizing the traditional aspects of SFA conventions during the cruise.  Many of you have been great sponsors and friends of the Special Forces Association and have provided support to past conventions.  If you have specific questions regarding support to 2024 SFACON then please contact Pete Tingstrom, SFA Chapter VIII (8) President, at specialforces2024cruise@gmail.com.     Prepare to be inspired by an exceptional lineup of keynote speakers who have conquered adversity and achieved remarkable success both during and after their military service. A veteran- whether active duty, retired, National Guard, or reserve..is someone who at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to the United States of America for an amount of “up to and including my life”.
