DOD August 7, 2026Hello All,Sadly we recieved word that Carmine Downey passed away on Friday August 7, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loved ones. Please keep his wife IOI Gloria Downey, his daughter Kiani, his mother, his sister and two nieces in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time as they grieve this tremendous loss. Memorial services will be held in Florida in the fall.Carmine N. Downey, a former U.S. Army Special Forces Green Beret and retired federal law-enforcement officer, passed away on Friday, August 7, 2026.
Downey served approximately 12 years in the active and reserve components of the U.S. Army Special Forces, including service with a HALO team. Following his military career, he continued a lifetime of public service as a federal law-enforcement officer, retiring after approximately 30 years. A significant portion of his career was spent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), including many years with its elite Special Response Team.
Outside of his military and law-enforcement careers, Downey was widely respected in the martial-arts community. With more than four decades of experience, he trained and instructed in numerous disciplines, including military hand-to-hand combat, Krav Maga, kickboxing, karate, jujitsu, judo, kobudo and kendo. He was also an MMA coach and worked in the entertainment industry as a stunt performer and stunt coordinator.
