Sf Scholarships

April 16, 2025

Hello Members and Friends of the Association,

SFA Members - If you sent an application prior to 14 April, it may not have been received due to an issue with the email system. Unless you have an acknowledgement of your submission, please resend your application.  Please note the correct email address below.

The system is operating as it should now.

 The email address is scholarships@sfanbo.org

You can refer to the Scholarship web page at www.specialforcesassociation.org/sfa-scholarship/ if you have questions.

SFA National Headquarters will soon be issuing an announcement on its webpage, on Facebook and in the next issue of the Drop for the opening of its 2025 academic scholarships for SFA members and dependents and grandchildren of SFA members.

The new policy, which contains all instructions for submittals, is attached. We ask that you disseminate this information to all members of your chapter in addition to any chapter scholarships that you may offer, so that applicants may be aware of every financial opportunity open to them.

Please note that several changes have been made in the program this year:

                • Awards will be made in three categories: undergraduate, graduate and trade school, and the number and amount of scholarships in each category will be included in the announcements. This will make the scholarships available to a broader cross section of applicants.

                • SFA members are allowed to apply for themselves.

                • The application period has been changed. Applications must be received electronically between April 1st and May 15th to be eligible for consideration.

                • Applications will be evaluated on a merit basis only, using an objective scoring system. Letters of reference from friends and officials will not be accepted, nor will sponsor letters carry any weight in scoring.

We are seeking to simplify the overall scholarship application process so that students will not have to decipher small changes and spend excess time preparing different applications for different organizations.

To that end, we ask that your chapter consider making any convenient modifications to your scholarship program that could make it as similar to the national policy as possible, to make it easier for the student to apply at both levels. This is not mandatory, but only a request. Please feel free to use the SFA National program as a template.

We welcome any comments or feedback that you may have.

Garon Strong
