Hello Members and Friends of the Association,
Passing this on from Bill Sander at Chapter 85 ~
Art Walker sent the following notice of the upcoming internment in Cape Canaveral National Cemetery of a retired Special Forces soldier; Major(R) Robert Earl Gilbert
I have added his obituary:

Art and a couple other members plan to attend and then go over to GRILLE'S restaurant in Cape Canaveral for lunch with the family and the members of the Green Beret Troop Support members.
If you plan to attend, send me an email and I will pass it on to Art.
Please contact Art Walker on his cell phone at 772 834 3321 if you have any questions on how to get to the cemetery or to GRILLE'S.
Thanks,
Bill Sander

GBTS: GREEN BERET TROOP SUPPORT
- Tuesday Feb 22nd (President’s Day) 9:30 am – internment of Bob’s ashes at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery
- Through the funeral home, we’ve already requested the standard honors the conduct for veteran internment (e.g., folding and presentation of the flag, playing Taps, etc.)
- You probably know how it goes better than us, but it sounds like it’s pretty regimented – line up cars in designated space, 5 minutes to get in place, 5 minutes to depart. The Funeral Director says the military honors take about 10 minutes, which leaves 10 minutes for anything else the family wants – often a family pastor from the deceased’s church would give a short blessing. I don’t think Dad has been to church in quite some time, so I don’t think we have anyone like that. Curious if you know if there is a military chaplain who does things like that? Or someone in Dad’s circle who would be appropriate?
- The family was thinking of heading to Grille’s at Cape Canaveral after for an early lunch (we’d probably be there around 11, if the internment is over by 10) – dad always took me there when I visited, and we ate there a couple of times when mom passed – so now it’s a tradition for us as much as the Green Beret Support Troop. It just occurred to me that that day is coincidentally the day that you guys get together anyway (I thought Dad told me it was the last Tuesday of the month – which would be Tuesday Feb 22nd) – is that right?
- It is probably too hard and awkward to pull the two groups together in one space (since almost all of our family lives outside of Florida, we’re not sure how many will be able to make it – probably 10 or so of us, but could just be 5 or 6; or it could be 12 or so – everyone’s figuring it out now; from what Dad says the SF support group is like 20 or 30 people?) – but we should definitely work out something – a toast together, etc.
